Your Business Called. It Wants a New Hire. (And No, It Won’t Ghost You.)
No tech background. No big team. No $50K software budget. Just a chat window and a little bit of curiosity.
Okay, real talk. You know that moment — it’s mid-week, you’ve answered the same staff question for the fourth time, you’re staring at a blank screen trying to write one social post, and you have three vendor PDFs open in different tabs that you definitely haven’t compared yet. Your brain is fried and your to-do list is thriving (unfortunately).
What if you could just… hand that off?
Not to a new employee you have to onboard, manage, and train for six months. Not to an expensive agency. To a chat window that’s already smarter than most interns and works at 2 a.m. without complaining.
That’s basically what went down at a recent AI Test Drive session hosted by Train in Your Lane – a power hour led by AI educator Anissa Faus and IT operations pro Jacque Hill. The vibe? No fluff, no tech jargon, just real demos and real talk about how franchise owners can actually use Claude, Anthropic’s AI platform, to get hours back in their week starting today.
If you weren’t in the (virtual) room, you missed the energy (and the specific golden prompts shared with the group), but we’re not going to leave you completely behind. While the lucky group who attended live got the exact, copy-paste prompt Anissa used to build a month of brand content in sixty seconds, we’ve distilled the core breakthroughs here so you can start catching up.
Wait, What Even Is Claude?
First things first, Claude is not a search engine. It’s not Google with a personality. It thinks with you. It’s more like texting a ridiculously smart coworker who never has a bad day, never judges your questions, and always has a first draft ready before you’ve finished your coffee.
Anissa put it perfectly: think of Claude as “a brilliant generalist, a writer, an analyst, a coach, and a brainstorming partner” all wrapped into one. Your most versatile team member. Built by Anthropic, a company obsessed with making AI that’s actually safe and responsible. Claude is specifically designed for business writing, strategic thinking, and nuanced reasoning. That last part matters a lot when it’s touching your brand, your people, and your operations.
For franchisees and franchisors juggling local ops, brand guidelines, and basically running everything with a lean team, Claude hits on three real pain points:
- Time. The blank page is not your friend. Claude kills the first draft so you can focus on editing, not creating from zero.
- Expertise. You don’t need to be a copywriter, HR pro, or data analyst. Claude can show up as all three.
- Consistency. Brand voice, tone, templates, SOPs; load it in once and Claude keeps everything aligned every single time.
Claude vs. ChatGPT: The Honest Tea
If you’re already using ChatGPT, you’re probably wondering if Claude is actually different or if this is just another “but have you tried THIS app” moment. Valid.
Here’s the actual breakdown:
ChatGPT slaps for quick questions, image generation, and casual brainstorming. But it can be a lot… verbose, weirdly enthusiastic, and it has a habit of adding disclaimers and caveats to literally everything. Reading a ChatGPT response sometimes feels like wading through bubble wrap to find the actual answer.
Claude just sounds like a person. A smart, professional person who gets to the point. It handles long documents, complex reasoning, and brand-specific writing without the unnecessary commentary. No moralizing. No watering things down. Just the output you asked for, in a tone that actually sounds human.
Both are around $20/month for paid plans. The difference isn’t the price but which one sounds like your brand instead of a robot doing its best impression of your brand.
No shade to ChatGPT. Different tools for different jobs. But for franchise owners who care about brand integrity and operational writing? Claude is the main character energy you need.
The Demos That Actually Proved It
This is where the session got good. Live prompts and real results.
Demo 1: Making Brand Comms Feel Human (Not Robotic)
Anissa used a fictional candle franchise to show how this works. She gave Claude the context first: brand tone (friendly, energetic, community-focused), values, vibe. Then asked for a welcome-back message for customers who hadn’t come in for 60 days.
What came back? “It’s been a while and honestly, our candles have been asking about you.”
That’s not AI copy. That’s good copy. Warm, specific, personality-forward. Then she pushed further, “give me two versions, one for corporate level and one that sounds like it’s coming directly from a local owner.” Claude delivered both, distinctly different in voice and feel, on brand for each use case.
Then, just to flex a little, she asked Claude to take that same energy and spin it into a social post. Claude actually asked what platform and what the focus should be before generating anything. It didn’t just blast output, it thought first.
The vibe check: You literally don’t have to write your marketing content anymore. Set the context, iterate, done. And it’ll actually sound like your business, not like you ran it through an AI translator.
Demo 2: Building Operational Docs in Minutes
Jacque took the wheel for this one and showed something even more useful for day-to-day ops. She’d set up what she called a “franchise test environment” inside Claude, basically a project loaded with details about a fictional fitness franchise: members, staff count, brand colors, tone, operational specifics.
She dropped in a prompt asking Claude to build a full employee onboarding FAQ document. The result? A formatted, branded, step-by-step FAQ complete with complaint procedures, onboarding instructions, location placeholders, brand voice intact – built live, in minutes. She didn’t write a word of it.
When someone asked “where is it pulling all this from?” – the answer is the setup you do once upfront. The paid Pro version ($20/month) gives you memory and project capabilities, so Claude learns your business over time. Closing procedures, access instructions, staff policies – teach it once, and it holds onto it.
Jacque’s analogy was perfect: “You’re teaching an intern who will never forget anything you’ve told them until you tell them to forget it.”
That’s it. That’s the whole thing. An intern with infinite memory and no ego.
Okay But It Gets Wilder: Co-Work and Claude Code
Chat mode is the entry point. But Claude has two other modes that genuinely change the game.
Co-Work: Set It and Forget It
Co-Work is the “I have too many things to do and I need to just walk away” feature. You describe what you need, Claude makes a plan, executes it step by step, checks its own work, and flags anything it’s not sure about. You come back to finished work.
Real franchise use cases that are available right now:
- Dump your week’s notes and numbers into a folder → come back to a polished weekly report, ready to send
- Upload three vendor PDFs → let Claude compare quotes and surface the best value while you drive home
- Hand it a pile of Google reviews → get a categorized breakdown of the top three issues and a meeting agenda to address them
This is not a future thing. This is a Tuesday thing.
Claude Code: Custom Apps Without Knowing How to Code
Okay this one sounds unhinged but stay with us. Claude Code lets non-technical people build actual software just by describing what they want in plain English. No coding. No developers. Just words.
Anissa built a fully branded leadership diagnostic tool with 12 questions, dynamic results, heat maps, lead capture form integrated with her CRM in about an hour or two. Describing it in plain English, Claude built the whole thing.
The Train in Your Lane website? Built with Claude Code in under an hour. Full navigation, brand colors, copy, layout. One hour.
For franchise owners, this means the custom reporting dashboard or scheduling tool that used to cost $50,000 and six months of developer time? Now it costs a fraction of that and takes a fraction of the time. Your tech vendors and agencies are already using tools like this to work faster; you should know if that speed is actually benefiting you.
The franchise owners experimenting with Co-Work and Code right now are building a real edge. The best time to learn a tool is before you desperately need it. That time is now.
Don’t Sleep on the Governance Stuff
Before you go fully feral with AI (no judgment, honestly), the session made one thing very clear: you are still the human in charge.
Claude is a tool, not a decision-maker. Anything touching HR, legal, or compliance needs a real human reviewing it. (Megan Center, from Faegre Drinker wrote a great piece on AI in the legal space – check it out!) Sensitive data: SSNs, confidential records, etc. should never go into any AI platform, full stop. And every business using AI should have a written policy so your whole team knows what’s in bounds.
The silver lining? You can literally have Claude help you draft that policy. Very full circle.
Your Homework (It’s Easy, Promise)
The session ended with a challenge anyone can take on this week:
- Head to claude.ai — free version, no credit card required
- Before you write your next email or social post, open Claude first — just once
- Go to Settings → Custom Instructions → tell Claude who you are, what your business is, and what your brand sounds like. Set it once, it carries into every conversation
- Treat it like a conversation, not a vending machine. Give context. Push back. Iterate. The first answer isn’t always the best answer
- Verify facts; especially specific dates and numbers. It’s brilliant, not infallible
Jump on the Bandwagon, You’ll Be Glad You Did
AI isn’t here to take your business. It’s here to take the three hours you spent last Tuesday writing things from scratch that you’ve written fifteen times before.
Claude is the thinking partner that works when you don’t want to, sounds like your brand when you brief it properly, and gets genuinely better the more you use it. You don’t need to be technical. You don’t need to be a writer. You just need to be willing to have a conversation.
